Ø      The following information is provided as a general guideline for

    your budgeting purposes.

 Research: 

Costs for simple information gathering will be determined by your requirements for volume and the availability of pertinent information.  Research for writing is costlier due to the need to collect the information, learn from it, and convert what is learned to writing.  Research conducted on the web is considerably cheaper due to the speed of access to large amounts of information.  Research conducted via personal interviews, at libraries, or with specialized book sets requires more time and will increase overall cost.

 

Royalties: 

Royalties for sales letters and documents written for sale or resale can be negotiated.

 

Travel Expenses: 

Any work requiring frequent or distant travel requires advance payment of 75 cents/mile travel time plus current IRS reimbursable mileage rate (for 2007 it is 48.5 cents per mile).  Travel expenses for work requiring air travel or overnight stays can be negotiated. 

 

Writing: 

I charge by the hour instead of by the page.  This method helps ensure you get a quality document rather a large one with a lot of meaningless wordy text. 

 

It usually takes from 1 to 2 hours for a good writer to draft one page of text on a single subject or item when all needed information is provided in a logically organized manner.  Additional time, up to a full day, can be required based on the need to search for, research, and extract information to compile a page of text.  In rare instances when working with highly complex issues it could take a week or more.

 

Your total cost will be significantly affected by your requirements and the information you provide a writer.  Writing small items such as one catalog item description can be done in as little as a few minutes depending on how much space you want to occupy with type, or the complexity of the item. 

Some free-lance writers charge by the item regardless of how many words a description contains, even if its only a few.  If you prefer this method for budgeting purposes I will provide a quote once I know your specific requirements.

All other:  Estimating your costs for remaining services offered will mostly be determined by your specific requirements.  I’ll be happy to work with you and provide as much service as possible within your budget.T
